Phineas7 Whitney (Reuben6, Phineas5, Isaac4, Nathaniel3, Benjamin2, John1), son of Reuben6 and Lucy (Sawyer) Whitney, was born 8 Sep 1822, Norridgewock, ME, and died 10 Aug 1857, Lewiston, ME, "from Jay".[1]

He married, 1 Jan 1845, Jay, ME, Melvina Amanda Bean, daughter of James and Eunice (Taylor) Bean. She was born 27 Nov 1824, Jay, ME, and died 9 Jan 1881, Lawrence, MA. She "Amanda" married secondly, 14 Dec 1861, Jay, ME, Jefferson J. Adams. He died 8 Jan 1864, Barracks General Hospital, New Orleans, LA. Amanda then cohabited with Benjamin Hatch.

i. Sumner Wallace8 Whitney, b. 21 Aug 1846, Bean's Corner (Jay), ME; m. Eliza Stone Metcalf.
ii. Pamelia L. Whitney, b. 29 Feb 1848, Jay, ME; not found in 1860 or 1870. See notes below.
iii. George Clinton Whitney, b. 17 Apr 1850, New Vineyard, ME; m. Anna P. Burnham.
iv. Lizzie F. Whitney, b. 24 Mar 1852, Jay, ME; m. 11 Nov 1885, Lowell, MA, Albert G. Flowers, b. ca. 1846, Burke, VT, son of Bradford and Sophia (-----) Flowers.[2] She was living in her grandparents' household in 1860. Not found in 1870.

Annie P. Whitney, of Lawrence, MA, 23, born Farmington, ME, daughter of Phineas and Amanda (-----) Whitney, married, 26 Oct 1871, Lawrence, MA, Albert C. Newell, of Effingham Falls, NH, 23, born Hillsborough, NH, son of J. H. T. and Lovilla (-----) Newell.[3] She, 37, married secondly, 26 Mar 1887, Lawrence, MA, William H. Merrill, both of Lawrence, MA, 30, hostler, born Canada, son of Reuben and Amelia (-----) Merrill.[4] This would put her birth in early 1848 or late 1847. She died 1 Apr 1894, Lawrence, MA, aged 46 years, of cancer.[5]
