Stanton Martine8 Whitney (Darling Brush7, John6, Darling5, Daniel4, Richard3, John2, Henry1), son of Darling Brush7 and Harriet North (Vail) Whitney, was born 22 Feb 1837, Dix Hills, Huntington, L.I., NY, and died between 1870 and 1880.

He enlisted in 1862, at La Crosse, WI, where he then lived, in the 24th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry; took part in the battles of Murfreesborough, Chattanooga, Missionary Ridge, and Chickamauga; was with Gen. Sherman from Chattanooga to Atlanta; was in the Division of Gen. Thomas, in his retreat from Atlanta, to Nashville; and at the end of his three years' service, was honorably discharged, and returned to Winona, MN, where he still lived in 1868.

He married, 8 Feb 1870, Winona, MN, Selena Nowlan. She was born about 1851, Canada, and died after 1880.
