Welcome!
Welcome to the Whitney Research Group website!
I found a Percy A. Whitney, wife Elizabeth, and with several children living in East Orange, New Jersey in 1930. With them was a son Frank A. Whitney, born about 1922 in Canada. Does this sound like the correct family? If not, please list any dates or locations you might have.
Thank you!

Is this your Samuel?
Take a look at Family:Whitney, Samuel (1779-1864). Note the son Samuel who married Lydia King. We haven't transcribed the appropriate page from Phoenix's book yet, so we don't have this family added to the site yet, hence the red link. I'll ask Robert L. Ward to look for this family in the book and see what we can find.

1891 Census
I found your family in the 1891 Census:
1891 Canada Census, Canso, Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Canada, p. 49 223 Whitney Joshua M 48 W - N.S. - N.S. U.S. Meth Carpenter " Charles M 22 - S " - " N.S. The columns are family #, Name, Sex, Age, married or widowed, relationship to head of family, county or province of birth, french canadian, place of birth of father, place of birth of mother, religion, profession.
Note that the Joshua Whitney living next door to "Borne?" Whitney is Joshua Swain8 Whitney (Samuel7 (m. Lydia King), Samuel6 (m. Margaret Swain), Samuel5, Abraham4, Joseph3, John2, Henry1). Since Borne Whitney's father was listed as Samuel Whitney, b. ca. 1811, and since Samuel7 Whitney, father of Joshua Swain Whitney, was born 1811, I think we've just about proven that your lineage is:
- Henry1 Whitney, m. ----- -----
- John2 Whitney, m. Elizabeth Smith
- Joseph3 Whitney, m. Hannah Hoyt
- Abraham4 Whitney, m. Anne Plumb
- Samuel5 Whitney, m. ----- -----
- Samuel6 Whitney, m. Margaret Swain

Henry Whitney
I think it's exciting to help someone find their ancestry - glad I could help. The Henry Whitney branch is the 2nd largest Whitney branch in America, behind the John Whitney family and more numerous than the descendants of Samuel Whitney of Bermuda. There were also many other smaller families, which we haven't been able to tie together yet.
We currently have a very active researcher working to attempt to locate Henry's ancestry, but people have been trying for about 100 years now. Watch out for the fraudulent lineage for Henry out there - it's been disproven. On Henry's page is a letter he wrote asking for medical help for his first wife. This was just located in the last 2 weeks or so, so is a very new discovery.
