John Martyn⁸ Whitney (William⁷, Peter⁶, Aaron⁵, Moses⁴, Moses³, Richard², John¹), born Northboro, Massachusetts, 14 Oct 1816; married at Mansfield, Connecticut, 1 Sep 1841, Susan Maria Campbell; born 7 Jul 1820; died Jan 29, 1859; married 2d, at Waterbury, Con., 9 Jun 1862, Elizabeth Nancy Chipman; born 2 Apr 1824; died 12 Jun 1892.

He was in his earlier days, a stage driver in the northern part of Connecticut. He was employed by the Adams Express Company when they first opened an office in New Haven. Just previous to his death he was in the employ of English & Merrick, an old carriage hardware house, where he was for thirty-seven years. He was well known and much thought of. He died 1 Feb 1892; resided New Haven, Connecticut.

ii.	Dwight Adams Whitney, born 25 Jul 1848; married Adalia R. Robbins.
iii.	John Andrew Whitney, born 9 Sep 1842; married Georgianna S. Bogue.
iv.	WM. Foster Whitney, born 9 Feb 1844; died unm. 23 Nov 1890.
v.	George Campbell Whitney, born Mar., 1846; died -----.
vi.	Jennie Maria Whitney, born -----, died 14 Sep 1859.
