Family:Whitney, Calvin (1813-1898)
Dea. Calvin7 Whitney (David6, Nathan5, David4, Benjamin3, John2, John1), son of David6 and Elizabeth (Barron) Whitney, was born 1 Dec 1813, Westminster, MA,[1] and died 17 Oct 1898, Westminster, MA, aged 84 years 10 months 16 days, of old age and paralysis.[2]
Marriage intentions were published, 12 Aug 1837, Westminster, MA, for him and Huldah Brown "of Princeton".[3] He "of Westminster" married, 14 Aug 1837, Princeton, MA, Huldah Brown,[4] daughter of Joseph and Lucy (Holden) Brown. She was born 18 Sep 1818, and died after 1880.
Calvin Whitney was born in Westminster and resides on the old homestead selected by his grandfather, Capt. Nathan, when the place was known as "Narragansett No. 2." In the kitchen in the old house is his grandfather's commission as captain in the King's Guards. He has numerous other relics of Revolutionary times, including portraits of Capt. Nathan and his wife painted by a Capt. Dommos, a Hessian prisoner whom they were keeping with others taken by our soldiers from the British. In early life he was engaged in getting our chair stock, but afterward devoted himself wholly to the management of his farm. Himself and wife have been deeply interested in questions of moral and social reform, and through them in the more liberal interpretations of Christianity, becoming at length members of the Universalist Church, of which he was for some years Deacon. Two of their daughters have displayed much talent in certain lines of art, and made a creditable reputation for themselves in putting the same to practical use. Mr. and Mrs. Whitney are still living in the enjoyment of a peaceful old age, having celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage several years since, amid the congratulations and kind wishes of a large circle of relatives and friends. Resided South Westminster, MA.
Heywood says the following:[5]
- "Whitney, Calvin7, bro. of the last, and a sharer with him of the landed estate of their f., m. Sept. 7, 1837, Huldah (16), dau. of Joseph and Lucy (Holden) Brown.
