William Lambert8 Whitney (Abel7, Peter6, Aaron5, Moses4, Moses3, Richard2, John1), son of Abel7 and Susanna (White) Whitney, was born 11 Mar 1811,[1] Cambridge, MA, and died 29 May 1900, Cambridge, MA, aged 89 years 2 months 18 days.[2]

He married firstly, 18 Oct 1836, Cambridge, MA, Lucy Ann Jones.[3] She was born 9 Jun 1812,[4] and died 10 Aug 1838, Cambridge, MA, aged 23 years.[5]

Marriage intentions were published 2 Jul 1840, Cambridge, MA, for him and his second wife, Rebecca R. Brackett "of Quincy".[6] Marriage intentions were published 5 Jul 1840, Quincy, MA, for him "of Cambridge" and his second wife, Rebecca R. Brackett "of Quincy".[7] He "of Cambridge" married secondly, 28 Jul 1840, Quincy, MA, Rebecca Richardson Brackett "of Quincy",[8] daughter of Lemuel and Sarah7 (Whitney) Brackett. She was born 26 Mar 1803, or -- --- 1809,[9], or 26 Mar 1809 [per death age], and died 8 Dec 1881, Cambridge, MA, aged 72 years 8 months 12 days, of cancer.[10]

He was in the furniture business in Cambridge from 1833 to 1856 when he sold out; treasure of the Cambridge Savings Bank from 1857 to 1866, when he resigned. In the city government he was a member of common council in 1816-47; alderman in 1848, again in 1871-72 and 1874-75, declined to run in 1879; justice of the peace four terms of 7 years each; chairman and clerk board of assessors 1850-51-52; director in Harvard Branch railroad from its beginning in 1849 till discontinued in 1855; director in the American Unitarian Association about ten years and resigned in Oct 1888; resided 31 Hawthorn St., Cambridge, MA.

iii. Julia Ann Whitney, b. 1 Aug 1847, Cambridge, MA;[13] m. 4 Oct 1876, Cambridge, MA, Rev. James Edward Wright, son of Jonathan E. and Fanny W. (-----) Wright;[14] resided 19 Baldwin St., Montpelier, VT. He was b. 9 Jul 1839; graduated at Harvard College in 1861, and at Andover Theological seminary in 1885. Served as a private and was promoted to Sergeant in Company F, 44th Massachusetts (a nine months' regiment) from 29 Aug 1862, to 18 Jun 1863; was ordained a minister of Jesus Christ in Henry, Marshall County, IL, 24 Jul 1866. Had charge of a church of the Christian connection in Jacksonville, IL, from about that date in Jan 1869. Has been minister of the Church of the Messiah in Montpelier since Sep 1869. This church is popularly known as the Unitarian church. Children:
